Serve As an Intern

The internship program offered by the Denver Rescue Mission is two-fold. First to help students, adults, and individuals gain experience in both the non-profit, human services, and ministry fields. Our internships are designed to be hands on, challenging, and productive. Our goal is to help train, lead, and provide opportunities that will allow for our interns to leave with knowledgeable and helpful insights to either further help the Denver Rescue Mission or other organizations nationally and globally.

The second side, is for the intern to help the Denver Rescue Mission accomplish its goals. We are an organization of 150 employees but with the help of interns and volunteers we provide the work of almost 200 employees! Our interns are given jobs, tasks, and assignments that help further the success of the Mission. Without the help of our interns we would not be able to do what we do.

Full-time interns (40 hours per week) qualify for a $250 monthly stipend paid directly to an education or loan institution, as well as a $150 monthly stipend. In addition to this you also have an opportunity to live at The Crossing and receive free room and board.

There are over 15 different placement options, ranging from family and human services to financial and non-profit administration positions. If you’d like further information on the internship placement options, please click here. You may also call Kendra Huenneke at 303.953.3956 or e-mail her at khuenneke@denrescue.org.

http://www.combathumantrafficking.org/get-involved/volunteer

LCHT works to combat human trafficking at a local and global level through community-based research; promoting awareness and education; fostering leadership development; and forming key collaborations. At LCHT we can offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for interested individuals; we have limited capacity but are willing and eager to accommodate a variety of interests and time commitments.

LCHT is also actively collaborating with the Volunteer Network to End Human Trafficking (VNEHT). VNEHT offers options for volunteering with organizations throughout Colorado. Check out their website for more.

 Project Safeguard

http://www.psghelps.org/VolunteerNow.asp

Project Safeguard provides volunteer opportunities in five different areas of need to victims of domestic violence. We serve the entire metro Denver area through offices in Brighton, Broomfield, Centennial, Denver and Littleton. We provide services to a diverse community and strive to reflect that diversity in our staff and volunteers.
Courtroom Advocacy – Daily between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm
Advocates assigned to a courtroom serve several functions. In the course of a normal day advocates provide

  • Emotional support;
  • Answer question for clients preparing documents used to petition the court for temporary protection orders;
  • Ensure that the necessary documents are presented to the clerks in a timely manner;
  • Discuss safety plans;
  • Assemble appropriate referral and resource information; and
  • May also assist clients preparing for permanent protection order hearings and accompany them to court.

Advocates are trained to answer questions about:

  • Domestic violence;
  • Protection orders;
  • Divorce; and
  • Allocation of parental responsibility.

These advocates also register clients:

  • To attend clinics;
  • Discuss safety plans;
  • Assemble appropriate referral and resource information;
  • Initiate follow-up contact for clients who have been seen in court; and
  • Offer emotional support.

Legal Advocacy and Assistance Clinic: Tuesday between 5:30 and 8:00 pm (Scheduled monthly in Spanish)
This is an opportunity for advocates to assist women who are preparing to petition the courts for dissolution of marriage (divorce) or allocation of parental responsibility (child custody) without benefit of an attorney. An attorney will facilitate this clinic and will explain the forms as well as help women prepare for court appearances and answers any legal questions.

Project Safeguard provides:

  • All the appropriate forms;
  • Helps clients identify which court to petition the attorney;
  • Explains the forms;
  • Answers questions, and
  • Provides individual assistance to clients regarding their case.

CourtWatch: Daily between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm
CourtWatch is an opportunity to learn about court process and procedure. In this capacity:

  • Volunteers observe the proceedings of an assigned courtroom.
  • Volunteers document the activities with special interest in the treatment of women who come before the court where domestic violence is either the presenting or underlying issue.

Results of these observations are analyzed and resulting recommendations are presented to the appropriate authority by the CourtWatch Coordinator with the intent of improving conditions for women requesting services through the courts.

Community Outreach: This is a chance to raise awareness in your community about the seriousness of domestic violence. Opportunities in this area include:

  • Conducting research;
  • Participating in presentations; and
  • Supporting fundraising efforts.

Volunteer should possess the following:

  • An interest in and a commitment to women’s issues
  • A basic understanding of domestic violence issues
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • The ability to remain non-judgmental and supportive
  • The ability to work professionally with a variety of people
  • The desire to make a one-year commitment

Project Safeguard supports the academic community through placement of interns in some of our volunteer positions.

 Sungate Kids

http://sungatekids.nationalchildrensalliance.org/Volunteer

Due to the sensitive nature of our business and to protect the confidentiality of our clients and their families, we do not use volunteers on site on a regular basis.

However, if you are an individual interested in assisting at special events or if your group would like to perform a one-time project benefiting SungateKids, please let us know!

 Transitions Global

http://www.transitionsglobal.org/volunteer.php

Transitions Global strongly believes in connecting people to their passions. Volunteering is one of those opportunities to unite people’s abilities, skills, and enthusiasm to the things that can make a difference in a girl’s life. We are always being asked “What can I do?” Nobody knows that better than you.

As a result, we help our volunteers by having them answer the more important question – “What can you offer?” What would you like to do? What are your strengths and skills? Tell us what you would like to do and how we can use your skills. We are always excited to put people to work – but there is no replacement for people putting themselves to work. If you would like to volunteer with Transitions Global, contact us and tell us what you can offer!

We have a number of events throughout the year that are either sponsored by us or by another organization, group, or person to support the work of Transitions Global. If you would like to be a part of upcoming events or participate in Transitions Global Street Teams, let us know and we will get you signed up.
