Nonprofit Fund-raising on a Global Scale
I stumbled across an interesting donation-collecting widget while visiting an organization’s Facebook page. It was being used by Project Kaisei, the nonprofit organization whose mission is to help clean up the plastic from the oceans, and they were raising funds for their next oceanic expedition (click here if you’d like to check out how the widget is used; click on the Donate button to expand the box). The widget was created by a company called ammado, and I did a bit more checking into what they can do for organizations. I thought it was such a brilliant and useful tool, that I decided to spread the word about it.
The service is free for nonprofits and individuals to use and can be quickly set up on a company website and even a Facebook page. Here are some other perks:
- Fund-raisers can receive from 75 different currencies
- Donors can give any amount they choose; it even supports micro-donations which helps increase the number of donors
- It supports pledges for those who wish to enroll in automatically repeating donations
- No administration! Get automatic updates on what’s happening with your campaign

This Week’s Free Handy Apps
iPhone & Android users:
How’s this for another brilliant app idea? No more getting lost inside an airport, my friend, and becoming panicked when you need to get to your next gate on time but don’t know the way! The Point Inside Airport & Malls app uses GPS and handy maps to show your current location and other pertinent information to help orient yourself in what can be a huge maze of buildings. You can also pinpoint restrooms, ATMs, parking, elevators, escalators, taxi, rental cars, gates, ticketing counters, security lines, etc. Cost: Free.

BlackBerry users:
I don’t understand how this app works, but it can save on your BlackBerry’s battery usage. Maybe I shouldn’t ask how and just download it for my phone! Cost: Free.
