Nothing like A Colonoscopy To Start The Summer Off…
Maybe this is what my kids would call TMI, but when your brain is fuzzy from lack of coffee, and your body is thirsty from lack of water, and your awake early from lack of wine- there’s not much else to do but write about it.
I do think this whole no eating + cleaning out of the system should replace waterboarding. Truly. Or we should get to put it on our resume. Surely, there should be a reward beyond having some doc snake a camera up my bum? Well, true, I did lose a couple of L.B.s but we all know how long that will last…
Don’t get me wrong. I’m grateful to have health insurance so I can take preventative measures like this and the annual mammogram. It still baffles me why there’s any question that everyone deserves to have health insurance. If people can’t see that from a purely moral standpoint…I still don’t understand why it’s not crystal clear from an economic standpoint. Looking at the long term everybody benefits when everybody has access to good healthcare… preventative, diagnostic, and palliative.
I wrote about The Family Van a couple of months ago. This business model is pretty darn simple and surprise surprise for every dollar invested in providing this resource in poor neighborhoods results in $36 saved in management of chronic illnesses, ER visits, and prevention of disease.
Maybe we should all be doing a ‘gut check’ on how we think about health, and whether it should be tied so closely to wealth…
